I've not tried it on an Ashbory but I have several guitars equipped with Hipshots and I doubt if it would be successful. The elasticity of a standard guitar or bass string is minimal and once it is stable, and wrapped solidly around the tuner, the same degree of turn will detune the pitch by the same degree every time. This is what the Hipshot does, effectively rotates the post through a set angle. Once the Hipshot is set with its lower limit it will reliably change the pitch between E and D and back. Ashbory strings are much more elastic and continue to stretch through their life, so are more unstable than metal strings. Also the rotation would need to be greater, I suspect beyond the travel of the Hipshot. I doubt very much that it would reliably keep the string in tune due to its elasticity and it would always need tweaking, which defeats the object. Also the string thickness may make anchoring into the post difficult or impossible. The Hipshot also comes on a mounting plate which is very unlikely to fit on the small head and the tuners are much closer together than on a standard bass. It would also be very heavy and cause even more unbalance on the strap. I am happy to be proved wrong, but I'm not going to do the experiment There are other detuners out there but I think the problems would be the same. Mike
