Got my ashbory...
« on: November 29, 2003, 06:34:27 PM »

Got it Friday, played it damned near all afternoon. And some this morning. It's a bit to get used to. I play fretless every now and then, and am comfortable with it. I even did in a metal band exclusively for a year. But this is a totally different animal. The techniques are quite a bit different. Not to mention the shortened scale throws all instinct out the window.

I've had my most fun tapping odd riffs down low on it that are difficult on a 35" scale. Like Fish On and such. Good times. I sheepishly admit to liking it best with a bunch of gain

More to come later I'm sure... I just figured I'd check in that I received it, and all is well. Maybe if I come up with something interesting and I get comfortable with it. I will post some sound bites for the website to keep on hand as examples.

Hy,

I had a problem with my Ashbury, the sound was not even on all strings.

Pluggin it into my SWR 2*10 + Readhead 2*10, all from the first generation (rearports) it had a fantastic growl. However I encouraged the same problems noticed in one of the posted items on this site. The problem is that the E and A string have less volume than the D and G string. However, I'me gone try to renew the battery, and make sure that the strings have the most optimal contact with the piezo bridge.

Big Fun with my new axe, old bass jealous

It's taking a loooong time for the tuning to stabilize on my new Ashbory, and I'm still looking for the best strap arrangement, but those are about the only negatives I can report.

What a great little instrument!

I am recording a bass track for a friend's project (dreamy 12-string noodling over a drum unit and emo-ish synth pads), and the Ashbory seems to fit better than my mega-buck neck-through fretted five-string.

Also, I play in a worship band with a thick, dark sound courtesy of two baritone vocalists. Although I'm more comfortable playing my fretted electric bass, the Ashbory just seems to fit the mix better.

This is one of the best $250 purchases I have ever made!!!
