My main style of playing includes a method similar to Geddy Lee's index finger pluck in-pluck-out style... anyone who is familiar with his playing style for Counterparts-onward will know what I'm talking about, where notes basically come out in a stream of 16th's. I ordered an Ashbory today but have never played one. Others on the board have said using a pick is generally okay with Ashbory strings as long as you're careful... I'm wondering if my playing style is going to be too rough on them for the same reasons that a fast-picked style would be.
I haven't seen any posts yet from others who may use this style... I'll pass on my findings which may include a sound sample if anyone is interested.
I was real excited to re-discover the Ashbory. Back when I was a teenager in the late 80's I was in a music store and saw one (but didn't play it). As time went on I always thought back to that bass but didn't know what it was called. Then this summer I went to an outdoor family event where someone had taped a red Ashbory into an upright position on a wooden post, presumably to play it upright-bass style while holding another instrument. I was so glad to see it because I finally found out what the thing was called. I'm glad the Ashbory, its strings, and its parts are back in production... it seems I've found a good time to experiment with the Ashbory.
