Where to get a new nut for the Ashbory???
« on: November 26, 2002, 04:51:19 AM »

I stupidly broke off the end of the nut which holds the G string in place.. I was wondering if anyone has had this happen and, if so, where did you get a new nut and was it a difficult job putting it in?
I generally curious as to where spare parts can be obtained?

Parts

Email me about parts and I'll see what I can do.

As to the broken Ashbory nut, if you have a resourceful Luthier they'll be able to figure out a replacement material, cut it, and install it. If that's a concern or you want to fix it yourself, I may be able to track down a replacement part. We'll see...

Good luthier service is worth paying for.

Guitar center sells a sortof "grind it yourself" style of Nuts (hehehhee) and Saddles made of a porceline-bone type material primarily intended for acoustic guit. ... ive used them alot here and there.

if i goofed up like that i would go there and get one... and use a rotary tool like a Dremel or a Black&Decker Wizard and maybe a belt sander to file it into the proper shape (just use the original as reference). I'm sure it would be a tonal uprage to the cheapish plastic one... you could probably stain it black too

When I needed a new nut for my mandolin (also due to clumsily breaking it), I used a piece of acryilic (Plexiglass) and cut it to shape. It worked.

Nuts to that

I know I'm getting in on this conversation a little late

Anyway, Corian makes a nice sounding nut. Shapes easy, lasts well.

I bought a small Corian cutting board from Home Depot, and I've got nut blanks for life...
