hi all, after 1 week and 2 days i unzipped the bass bag and low and behold the g string had snapped 3 inches from the bridge, the slipping of tuning has been an issue from day one but should i leave it in pitch or de tune it, also who is best for new strings, i re knotted it and just managed to put the string on the machine head..and f was the pitch so it probably wont last, any words of wisdom please...

Hi Nig - welcome to the one downside of Ashbory life - random G string death. It's wise to detune the string a little when you put it in the case as this helps a bit but they still sometimes go. I strongly recommend contacting Mike Tavener (mike@mtavener.freeserve.co.uk ) who is UK based and sells G string by the metre. I've found his string lasts at least three or four times longer than the "official" string. He also sends the string out very quickly. There are a few posts in this forum about his string if you want some more opinions.

Cheers,
Alun

Sudden string Death

I've played Ashborys for 15+ years. The case breaks the string. Yep don't nick it with your finger but I believe that the case rubs it the wrong way. When you lift the bag it pulls arond the bass and at that tension it is succeptible. Detuneing is wise too.
