Hi guys,

I've seen a Markii Ashbory for sale (probably been there for years actually) and I am wondering if the standard Fender/DeArmond strings will work or if I need special strings, or if I need to find some sort of workaround.

As far as I understand the normal Ashbory has scale length of 18 inches whereas the discontinued MKii is 22 inches, however I have read in various literature that when you stretch the strings they can stretch to almost double their original length. Any ideas?

Any help/comments would be much appreciated.

Hi Pabs

If the price is right I'd go for it - I have a Mk ii a (see my website) and I prefer the longer scale length - more tension in the strings and easier intonation at the dusty end. The normal Ashbory strings work ok, but possibly have a bit of a shorter life due to the extra tension.

Hi Mike,

Thanx for the advice. I understand what you mean as the MKii does seem to be more pro quality compared to previous and subsequent Ashborys and I really do prefer the appearance of the MKii. On your site you say that your MKii is a one off.........do you know if they guys who made it (I'm assuming Nigel Thornbory and/or Clive Cherry) still do one offs? Obviously I realise custom made instruments aren't cheap.

BTW have you ever thought of selling whole sets of Ashbory strings (E and A, as well as the D and G you already sell)? I'm sure some people would pay extra for a more relable, durable set of strings!!

Cheers,

Pabs

p.s sorry for all the questions.

Pabs,

You might find this information on the MKII interesting (if you haven't already seen it):
