Famous double-bass riffs?
« on: July 26, 2005, 07:46:59 AM »

Ashbory isn't a double bass substitute, I know I know I know (in fact it has to act as a tuba substitute in my band http://www.chalfontwindband.co.uk:| ), but I guess it can come close. Anyway, every now and again I am permitted a couple bars of solo and I wondered what one might play in a string bass stylee that might be recognisable. The only one I can think of is Miles's "So What". Any ideas?

I would go to amazon.com and do a search on Ray Brown. He has recorded so many great CDs with so many great artists that it shouldn't be difficult to pick out a CD that has songs you want to hear his solos on. My personal favorite is his work on Oscar Peterson's Porgy & Bess Album. especially "It Ain't Necessarily So". He also heads a trio of Double Bassists on "Superbass" Volumes 1 & 2.
