Just ordered my ashbory!

Hi gents. I live in the UK (the Shetland Islands to be exact, near Norway) and I'm just about to order an Ashbory from this here site. I wanted to confirm what kinds of charges I'm looking at to get it imported
Quote from: Mike Tavener
I paid customs @ 3.5% + VAT @ 17.5% + the shippers handling charge

The Ashbory itself costs $247
So would I be paying 3.5% of $247 for custom duties = $8.65
And VAT at 17.5% of $247 = $43.23
Totaling $298.88 (around £167) + $50 for P&P (around £28 )

Presumably the 'shippers handling charge' that is mentioned is the P&P?

Have I got my facts right? All the best, Bryan

I'm not sure of the makeup of my bill to be honest, I was so relieved that the guitar had arrived, but in total it came to just over 23% of the value of the guitar (No tax payable on the postage element). I assume that was 21% (3.5 + 17.5) + the shippers handling charge. That's not P + P, it's their charge for liaising with customs and handling the paperwork.

For anyone else buying an Ashbory in the UK it may be best to try and source one within the European Union if possible and all you'd pay is shipping, no tax. Or at least compare the price on the above basis. I know Thomanns in Germany have stocked them, and their service is very good, though I didn't buy my Ash from them. I managed to find one in the UK about 4 years ago.

I've seen an Ash hanging in most guitarshops in London, that was Spring 2005...

It might be worth checking if one of those shops can ship it to the Shetland Islands...
