New Old Fart On The Block
« on: February 23, 2007, 12:05:01 AM »

Howdy all.  I'm new to the world of the Ashbory Bass.  I've been playing guitar and bass since 1962.  I've alternated back and forth as the situation has called for.  I recently bought a new reissue De Armond Ashbory out of curiosity after reading some reviews of them and cruising the web for all the information I could find.  All I can say about it is Wow!  I played an upright bass in college for a while in a folk group and the jazz band.  The little Ashbory has the sound of the old upright nailed, only amplified.  I'm a happy camper with it.

Hey, you sound like the guy I've been looking for. I've played bass for 38 years, including string bass.  I play mostly rock, but have this jazz need that needs to be filled.  Sounds like the Ashbory would do nicely.  Do you hold the bass like a guitar or more upright?  Is it easy to play the upper registar, I've got smaller hands...

What do you know about nbuying from LargeSound.com?

I hold it more like a guitar but with the neck angled up, if that makes any sense.  I really like the short scale of the bass.  It just feels "right"
