9th graders dig the Ashbory
« on: March 06, 2007, 04:23:53 AM »

Every year I go down to a boarding school in Arizona and teach a music workshop.
This year my class was all 9th grade boys...
Needless to say we played rock.
They all wanted to jam on the ashbory so pretty much every song we learned had a different bass player which I thought was great. I think it's worth noting that they figured out and dealt with the intonation issues right away. Kids don't realize it's difficult so they just go for it.

I found that the most important thing was to have a good powerful amp so they could hear that thump and try to lock with the drummer. It was cool.

I am the guy who uses the polyurethane strings and they were basically indestructible and the bright orange strings on the black bass is quite stagey as well...

I have found ways to compensate for the lack of sustain by playing octaves when I can.
My band still laughs at my bass playing but the show goes on
