I'm ordering a Ampworks Bass for headphone practice.
I've been happy with mine. A bit bulky, but not as bulky as the headphones I use with it I suppose.
1. The serial number ends with 14007. Does this mean that 14,007 (or more) Ashborys have been sold?
Kelly and I both are pretty darn sure the first two digits of the serial number are a two digit year followed by a two digit month. From there, the numbers bounce around.
Here's some headstock backs. Check out the serial numbers:
http://www.largesound.com/ashboryarticle/general/headstock/It's pretty safe to say the last 4 digits aren't Ashbory production to date.
seems the G string took a lot of winding, and I still haven't got it tightened up to G. ( I think I stopped on E.)
What I do is untie a knot on one end of the string, tie a knot further in, and then instad of cutting the extra string away I tuck it under the other string ends at the bridge end. If the G happens to break, sometimes there's enough left to save the string.
Should I wait a couple of days before tuning it up to G?
Nope. Tune it to pitch. Better still, take it off, stretch it, then put it back on as described above and tune to pitch.
I know that the strings will take a couple of weeks to stabilize after they're tightened up.
Yup. They take a long time to break in but they also will sound fresh over a year later.
Enjoy the bass.
