Alternate source for "Slyde Rite" dry lubricant
« on: September 13, 2007, 05:07:13 PM »

I got a couple of these from Large Sound when I ordered strings, and they are great - work slick, very handy format, fits in the case. I just rub the strings once or twice, like rosining a bow.

Two bags may last me forever, but I was disappointed not to be able to get them from the local billiards shop. But.. I was in a diving shop last week, and saw a display of little cloth bags of talc powder, in a ziplock plastic pouch, that looked awfully familiar. Close examination convinced me that they were exactly the same product as the "Slide Rite" stuff Brock discovered as a billiard supply. Divers use it to help get neoprene boots and wetsuits on - I have a little can of baby powder in my own dive-gear bag.

The price is similar to getting it online here - more if anything - but if you're looking locally, try a dive shop. And, who knows where else - I wonder how many other ways it could be marketed?

Dive shop... ...interesting.

Another place to find Slyde-Rites locally is bowling alleys. If I understand correctly, bowlers like to use them on their shoe bottoms for better sliding. I haven't hunted for them in bowling alleys but a friend of mine who bowls told me they have them there.

I found a Slyde-Rite competitor (called "Smooth Stroke" maybe?) at a local pool hall and it worked a lot like Slyde-Rites do (in otherwords, very well). Was it as good? Don't know, didn't play with it long enough. It worked though.
