Has anyone tried the Behringer practice amps? Or these Line6 cubes: http://www.line6.com/lowdown/studio110.html ??

I'm thinking I need at least 50W to get a desent sound??

Hello!

Did,Nt try the line 6, but I tried some Crate amps to use the ash with accoustic guitars. The small bass combos sounded less than ok, but when I tried their accoustic gutarr combos, the Ashbory sounded very well. So you might want to try accoustic amp instead of bass amp, before making your definite choice.

I'm a fan of Yorkville amps, especially for Ashbory bass use, which is why there's a few in the house. I typically play through a Yorkville XM200 combo these days.

Opinions will vary, but I think with Ashbory you're better off with sterile, direct sound (the warmth is in the bass) and Yorkville is a PA manufacturer that makes bass amps. Perfect!

For bass guitar, I like to supplement the sound (my big setup has a Mesa preamp, the smaller a Line 6 guitar combo amp for top end sound) but the Ashbory gets run clean and dry in either cases... ...no Mesa or Line 6.

Large Sound Commerce used to sell Yorkville but they just didn't move out the door. I still recommend them. We might still be able to order one in for you (send me an email if you're interested) but they're really cheap used, and that's how I'd get a bedroom sized one if I decide to do so. They're made in Canada and have a well earned reputation for being well made. Really nice amps that serve Ashbory extra well.

All the Behringer gear I've ever tried was pretty damn good.  Never tried their bass amps.

I just got myself an Ashdown After Eight 15w combo which was an open box special at AMS, it was in perfect shape, but since it was re-sealed they sold it for half what they usually retail for!  Sounds pretty good to me, I had a cheap no-name Chinese bass amp I got off eBay which had a 10" speaker but could NOT handle lows very well, the speaker would fart out, didn't expect an 8" speaker to handle things as well as it does.

It took me a day or so playing with the Ashdown's controls, but I'm very happy with it.

not to be redundant.... i use a swr strAWBERRY BLONDE WHICH IN MY OPINION IS THE CADILLAC OF ACOUSRTIC AMPS.8 inch spkr 80 watts is what i use for my axcoustic gigsa... the ash plays sweet thru it but you have to do some fine tuning going from the acoustic bass to the ash to acheive your paerticular saound.

I like Yorkvilles too. I've got an 80-watt bass amp and a 100-watt keyboard amp, which I bought as a mini-PA unit (clean enough for vocals, and it's got an XLR input), but lately I use it for everything. It's interesting what you say, I prefer bass guitar through a good bass amp but both the upright and the Ash sound better through the keyboard amp.

Hi everybody, my first message:
Having reveived my new Ashbory two weeks ago, having snapped my first G-string and nearly blown my Fender Blues Junior  guitar-amp, I'm asking my first (one of those) question:
I'm wondering if anyone has ever plugged our beloved rubber wonder into a downfiring combo? The likes of AI Contra, Zadow or MesaBoogie Walkabout? They say those amps are beneficial to the Double Bass sound, which I'm trying to get / preserve.
But they are quite expensive.
So maybe someone has tried an active car-hifi bass tube or another subwoofer?
(OK the time for do-it-yourself-projects seems to be over, I know.)
If those topics have been  treated already in depth, please have mercy with a newby.

I run mine through a Peavey Minx, which has a 10" speaker.  Its fairly compact, but not as small as some.  Peavey Bass Amps have always sounded pretty good to me.  This guy handles the Ash quite well, but I am always playing at low levels along with acoustics.  Nice thing is, you can get them on Craigslist often and cheap (<$100.00). :-)

Update, January 2008.  I brought a Peavey Microbass into the fold, and it performs very well for living room acoustic pickin's.  The Minx sits silently under its cover... :-)

I've been very happy with the Gallien-Krueger Backline 110. It is very small and inexpensive as such things go (about $230) and I think it gets a good string bass tone with the Ashbory. I run the Ash into a Fishman DI. I run the 1/4 out to the amp and the XLR out to the PA.

Oddly enough, this amp sounds truly terrible with my real string bass (Realist pickup, Baggs DI), and crappy but not quite terrible with my old Guild Starfire electric bass guitar.

I use a SWR LA8 amp with my Ash.  It's 30 watts through an 8" speaker.  It's extremely portable and light weight.  They don't make it anymore so you have to look on Ebay.  That's where I found mine.  It's good for recording or small acoustic gigs.  Can't say enough good things about it.
