Most of the Bluegrass folks I know would think you're Satan himself for bringing a amp to a bluegrass jam :o .

So do you often see a bass anything? The acoustic bass guitars as a whole are quiet, uprights are huge, and bass banjos are uncommon (and the Gold Tone one I played was kinda quiet and sounded kinda crappy).

I'm not a bluegrass guy, but I'm working on a 16" drum-based Bass Banjo project right now. 34" scale neck, EADG tuning. Much larger size than the Gold Tone, both in head diameter and scale length.

I'm a bluegrass banjo player and have used the Ashbory in multitrack recording. My girlfiriend also plays the Ashbory and we've used it in jams and an occasional performance, but there are a lot of bluegrass players who don't seem to accept it just because it's electric. In my opinion, it works very well for bluegrass, much better than other electric basses. It can really be aggravating when you're using an Ashbory in a jam and an upright player comes over and starts playing over the Ashbory. They wouldn't do that to another upright player but they've done it to my girlfriend a number of times. (In bluegrass, there's usually just one bass per jam, unlike other instruments.)

I have some recordings up on the Banjo Hangout website that use the Ashbory., 7 of the 12 that I have there, which are all the ones that have bass on them. I think they can be accessed without becoming a member there. The Url is:
