I've just bought an Ashbory from Brock and Kelly (Large Sound), here, and I thought potential UK purchasers might like to know how it goes. Are there insurmountable customs difficulties? Are there mountains of red tape? Actually, no! It's quite straightforward.
I asked Kelly to send me the instrument by the US Post's Global Express, 3-5 day delivery. The delivery can be tracked on the Internet and the itinary went like this:

*The 'Attempted Delivery Abroad' means that UK Parcel Force sent me a letter requesting payment of duty and a handling charge. This may be paid by credit card, by phone, using an automated system.
Duty was a bit lower than I expected at ~£28 and the handling fee was £13.50 (on an Ashbory + set of strings).
So, potential UK purchasers, don't be deterred by formalities; the whole process took only a week and was not complicated.
John
Please Note: I have no connection with Large Sound other than being a satisfied customer :-)
