Just got my first set of new strings from Musicians Friend
Before I open them.... they have white "spots" all over them, is that normal? They almost look like stress spots...

I just tie knots in each end and put them in????

Odds are very good those are some sprinklings of talc powder in the bags. They should have a little bit of a chrystal look about them.

Yup! The strings will stabilize faster and sound better if you stretch on them before you install.
