New to Ashbory, and having troubles
« on: March 25, 2009, 01:35:21 AM »

Just bought a 'like new' ashbory on ebay. Put in a new battery, and tuned it to C-G-D-A (I'm a mandola player). But, I've got three nasty problems:
1). The output jack is mechanically sloppy. My various guitar cords all wobble in it and make enormous crackles when torqued.
2). I have intermittent very high frequency noise. Can't hear it when the volume knob is down. Treble control makes no effect. Pressure on top of the pickup-bridge, or flexing the body will cause it. I can turn the treble on the amp all the way down, but what a waste!
3). Hard playing or tapping shuts OFF the output signal completely. Control knobs have no effect. Only pulling out the guitar cord (shutting off the 9V supply) will get it back.
ANY IDEAS?  Thanks!

Well, I ended up returning the bass to the ebay seller. Good guy! Then bought a new one on ebay only to have it arrive with three of the tuning pegs tight or unturnable. Called them, pointed them to the largesound discussion page on tuning peg problems. They pulled another out of stock, checked it out and sent me my third and finally ok unit.

Current odds of getting a good one are probably around 65% at present. We could drop ship like the other guys but we don't. I don't like shipping crap, so they all come here, get inspected, and go back out if they're worthy.

Glad you ended up with a good one. They're wonderful instruments.
