How much does the look of the Ashbory affect the purchase??
« on: April 20, 2010, 04:57:28 PM »

Just chiming in here on the look of the Ashbory a little.  I have seen these basses around for years, but never took one seriously because it looks like a toy.  I wonder how many other bass players out there would take this instrument more seriously if they could just experience one?  The other thing that kept me away were that there were some known quality issues with the basses which seems to improved.

I sometimes take a color copy of the Fisher-Price logo and stick it over the Ashbory logo on the bass and then watch people's reactions.  It does look like a toy guitar with big, fat, stretchy stings.  But then they hear the sound and always want to ask questions. ;-)

You realize that's exactly what bass players said of the P-bass in '51, right?

I keep hoping to pick one up at a car boot sale for a couple of quid because someone thinks it's a toy.

I don't like the shape of the body much (I'd rather something more symmetrical), but that didn't stop me buying one.

Great point, and when you think of the change from an upright to a bass guitar, it is also a substantial change in size.

Are you inferring that the Ashbory will replace the P, like the P did the upright?
