Ashbory debut at practice

Practice for our band tonight, and I'm bringing the Ash.  I've been working at home to get the bugs worked out, and I should be able to hold my own hopefully.  I'll have my regular, long-scale fretted bass there just in case.

Went well. I was a little hesitant to noodle around at the start but got more comfortable at the end.

What kind of music does your band play? Are the Pahoehoes changing any as you have them on longer?

The band that I am in led worship at our Church and we went our separate ways about 5 years ago.  Now we are getting back together, going over some of the old tunes, and starting to work on some new ones.  Since we no longer play for the Church, we're looking at expanding our repertoire into some new songs (80's rock cover tunes) and maybe some originals.

No change in sound from the strings yet, should I expect that?

The type of music that I play seems well suited to the pahoehoes since the music is more like pop music.  With another band I was in, we did Beatles songs, blues stuff and the silicones would have been great for that stuff.  I still like the sound of the pahoehoes on those songs however.  I would still like a little stronger sound on the G string, but the other 3 are very nice.

When I came walking into practice with it, everybody in the band was like "come on dude, what is that".  The girl in the band thought it was cute.  When I hit that low E for the first time, then they were believers.

In another thread, forum member "Bassface" has said that his Pahoehoes had better tone and sustain after 3 weeks, and after 6+ weeks had just as good sustain on all strings as the Fender silicone strings. I'm looking forward to trying them. I just mailed an order off to Owen the other day.

Thanks for reporting on your experience with them. I use the Ashbory for playing and recording bluegrass - usually my girlfriend plays bass and I play banjo. People keep coming up to us at bluegrass jams looking for the bass, wondering where that big sound is coming from.

The acoustic guitar player and I did some country / bluegrass riffs after practice and it was really sweet.  I can already tell, the Ashbory's are a nice compliment to the acoustic instruments (ukes, acoustic guitars, mandolins, fiddles, etc.)

I'm already seeing better sustain after having them on for 2 weeks.   I haven't seen a lot of difference in tone yet.
