Acoustic Ashbory (Rumor)
« on: April 30, 2003, 03:08:08 PM »

Someone on today's daily missive from The Bottom Line discussion group stated that there was an acoustic Ashbory being featured in this month's "American Luthier" magazine. I do not have access to this journal, but if anyone out there does, please let us know what the article is about. I think it's an interesting concept.

In The Bottom Line Volume 2002 Number 116:
http://www.amstadt.com/tblarchive/VOL2002/100-199/bl116.html

a "Piezo-miked, Acoustic, Hollow-Body, Koa, Ashbory-Style, Bass Ukulele." is mentioned.

I just dropped Kim (the owner) an email. Hopefully it'll be featured in the articles section here. Who knows?!

As to the article you mentioon, I'd like to see that one!

For the curious, here's the TBL edition with the mentioned contribution:

Thanks for the mention.

I looked up this site after reading about the acoustic ashbory in Am. Lutherie. R. M. Mottola wrote a piece about an acoustic ashbory he built using plywood. As opposed to the uke that you featured, this is a strictly acoustic instrument. Unfortunately, the article is primarily about using plywood as instrument making wood and very little is about the ashbory. He does say that the sound is great. Perhaps you guys can contact him for additional info. He is a contributing editor at GAL with an email address at rm.mottola@verizon.net. Looking forward to hearing more about the acoustic version.

I should point out that this instrument (in addition to the Bass Ukulele) has been added to the resources

Thanks to R.M. Mottola for the submision.
