Attack of the Ashbory
« on: June 15, 2010, 12:09:28 PM »

I think I can use my Ash on quite a few styles of music, but the one type of song that doesn't seem to work are the ones that need a strong percussive attack on the notes.  I don't want a slap bass tone, or a loud bonk kind of sound, just a strong attack like a regular bass has.  Any ideas?

I picked up a felt pick to give it a try and that's just what the doctor ordered.  Without the pick, there is a much lazier attack sound similar to an upright bass.  This is great for the laid back songs - blues, jazz, slow songs, etc.  With the pick I have a much more aggressive sound similar to an electric bass which is great for the driving rock rhythms.  Could it be that I've found a bass that can compete in both arenas?  After last nights practice, I'm thinking so.

One note, this is using the pahoehoe strings, I'd be curious what others could add concerning the silicons?
