Has anyone found strings with a bit more tension, especially for the E & A strings ?

Yes, but I'm unsure if we are allowed to discuss them here - the original thread was deleted this morning ???

Yes, you certainly can talk about urethane strings on here, and about anything else. That thread was pulled by the original author, not me. Notice this thread is still around, for example:

Next time I get into board settings, I'll probably disable the ability to pull a thread. I think it's lame that it yanks everyone else's comments along with your own, and that doesn't seem right to me.

Any way to recover that thread? It had a HUGE amount of info on those strings and it will be pretty much impossible to re-create it all :(.

Oh, and while you're modifying thing PLEASE make the default to be notified about responses to threads you've started or posted to. This place is zombieville partially because folks post question shere and never know that they have been responded too :(.

I didn't mean to cause a ruckus. I didn't return in time to see the pulled reply. However I did get a set of urethane strings from Bufo Bass strings. They are better in some ways and worse others.
Pros -
a little stiffer
slicker
I haven't broken a G string yet.

Cons
they vibrate differently and are inconsistent in volume from string to sting. The A & D strings are louder than the E & G strings. The Piezo pickup really responds better when the strings vibrate more.
The slicker string is harder to tie in a tight knot, so they slip and don't stay in tune as well. I'm sure that issue can be resolved with a little bit of Southern Strategy.

The Asbory is such a great bass no matter what string is on it. It just works, and the sound is always large. Other players can't believe how big it sounds and how much like an upright bass it's space is. I have taken mine and mounted it to a small, kids style Strat like body and it is way easier to hold and to play. I can take my hands off of the bass and it stays in place instead of taking the neck dive. I love this Bass.

You don't need to knot the pahoehoe strings, just pull them through the tuning peg and hold the end while you wind them on - they won't slip once you have made a few turns of the peg.
I don't find any difference in volume from string to string except maybe the D is a bit quieter, but I had the same problem with the old strings.
Use silicone spray to make them less sticky and faster to play.
I'd like to see a pic of your bass attached to the guitar body, neck dive is a real problem with the Ashbory and I still haven't found an ideal solution.
Steve.

There's an outline of how to get rid of neck dive in the "playing standing 2" thread under the Playing Techniques subforum. Just run a secondary strap from the headstock to the main strap.
