Relax my friend. This kind of s@%t can happen anywhere, and I don't think any of us on this forum expect you to be the 24 x 7 x 365 protector of the Large Sound sanctity.

I for one am extremely grateful for what you do. I never would have even thought about buying an Ashbory if it weren't for your long-term commitment to this website.

It's been a busy (day job) month and a half. It sometimes takes me a couple days to notice spam on this board, but that trash was here for about double that if I recall correctly. Someone had responded to one of them with a comment along the lines of string tone (silicone) vs. durability (urethane) and I got a laugh out of that, but alas, that spam thread had to go away along with the others.

I actually went to translate.google to see what he was writing.
turned out he wasn't even writing about a bass.
The only thing he would probably understand is:
"Free Vodka, if you stop doing this!"

On an old bass forum I often visit, we tend to make fun of these comments, like:
"Yes, give me this $120 iphone", or "i really was looking for a weightloss product, and now I found it, you saved my life!"

I mean, but in this case we don't even understand what he's saying without going to a translator website!

I'd suggest to make the login process harder, and ban the user in a way that whenever he posts a message it won't appear anymore.
I have a suspicion it's a bot.

Any way to add Captcha (sp?) or something similar to enable posting and (hopefully) limit it to sentient beings?

I need to get more serious about the forum software. I have it set up for instant posts and that is, for the most part, advantageous. Unfortunately, the tide is turning.

The easy fix is to require confirmation before posting, but that discourages participation. I don't like that. I might move over to a more spam resistant forum in the coming months, or change platforms.

Sorry about the annoyances, everyone. They aren't hacks. This forum is currently open sign up and post. This will probably go the way of unfiltered email, unfortunately.

Just to chime in I registered. 

I read this forum through an rss reader, and even when you delete those posts they still show up in the rss feed. Very unfortunate, I hope you will find a solution.

In any case, thanks for a great resource (and my Ashbory, last year).

Hmm, 25 spams in the RSS feed, and not a single useful message.

You could put a limit on the first 5-10 posts need to be verified.
Once a user has visited the site and contributed 10 constructive comments, validation is no longer necessary.

And it would force spammers to be constructive, and persistent.
If they then mess up by spamming like crazy after 10 posts, you just ban them, and they got to begin all over again.

For honest users, you'll notice, they will stay here. Especially when you can have an automated response to their mail that their post has been published, and perhaps even some users responded to them.

I ran a forum for scooter riders for a few months, and it got to the point where I was deleting 50 to 60 spammers a day! It eventually killed the forum...
