Ashbory Flight Case
« on: June 09, 2003, 10:43:09 PM »

I was hunting around a week or so ago looking for a hard-case for my new Ashbory. I couldn't locate anything so I decided to build one from scratch.

As you might imagine, I'm proud of it and wanted to share the tech info to build one yourself and will do so as soon as I get the photos.

But that's not why I dropped by . . . I was wondering if anyone has done anything similar . . . produced their own and want to share the scoop on it.

I'll be back to check . . . later

You're exactly who I want to talk to.

Everytime I travel with my Ashbory, it gets bumped inadvertently and when I arrive and open up the case, a string has broken!

I'd be very curious to see the case you built.

I've used a cordura soft sax bag probably a Levy. fits great with room for a tube of strings strap etc. It's so much bigger then the Ashbory yet not big inside or outside that it is difficult to bang the bass or feel it through the bag. It is quite snug inside. The original case always breaks the G string. this has been noted on sites for years. Thanks

I ended up buying a viola case.  It works great.

Thanks for your reply..... I'm glad that hearing that broken G strings was not just me.

I am looking for  a better case. I tour with my ashbory and the joy of taking it on the plane and not having to put it in the hold is spoiled by the lack of protection the bag gives. I will look into the viola and sax case options.

Protec viola case is excellent. You fold velvet cover cloth too raise bass bottom, level with headstock and it's great. Strap holds from movement of bass toward you when open but padded plug in roof of case is quite good. I've retired my Levi sax bag and Lotus guitar bag. Both mint and available cheap $25 for both. Hesche@erols.com. Do avoid original case. G-string breakage. At least not the kind that you appreciate.
